8th Grade Color Theory and Texture

This lesson originated from Pinterest. I first taught it to high-school students, and it has evolved since then. I start with some basic color wheel and color theory lessons. Students mix colors to make all secondary and tertiary colors. We talk about different color relationships, and they chose one for their subject. When I first taught this lesson they had to choose an animal as their subject. With this 8th grade class, they were allowed to choose any subject as long as it was personal and meaningful. The idea of creating sharpie patterns and textures in the background was introduced. The results are unique and beautiful.
