Classroom Rules



My classroom rules are vital to creating a safe space where art can be made and students are comfortable sharing ideas. These rules will help make an environment that runs smoothly, and will allow my students to be productive and happy.
  
  
  1. No disrespectful language or behavior to teacher or fellow students. Use appropriate language. Be kind.
  2. Clean up after yourself, you are responsible for anything you use! Alert teacher of any major spills or serious problems.
  3. No FOOD in the art room. Water is ok, please recycle empty bottles.
  4. Technological distractions are NOT allowed and will be confiscated.
  5. Alert the teacher if you need to leave the room during class. (Bathroom break etc..) Make eye contact with teacher to notify her that you are leaving.
  6. Attendance policy: Here is an attendance scenario- You are more than 2 minutes late and you...
  1. Have a pass and hand it to the teacher (GOOD JOB!)
  2. Quietly enter the room with no pass and sign the LATE BOOK. (The late book is a record that you are not absent and will save you from getting a detention for skipping class.)
  3. Realize it is the second time you are late to class. YOU GET A DETENTION WITH THE TEACHER! NOOOOOO!! :(
*** Refrain from lining up at the door at the end of class. (If you do, you will be cleaning for the teacher.)***

Pattern Names

The pattern name project was the initial piece for a larger unit of study. Student's were challenged with writing their names in block or bubble capital letters. All letters had to overlap the previous one. After sketching out their names, they had to fill each letter with a different pattern. The spaces where the letters overlapped also had to be different patterns. Students were challenged to create interesting and varied patterns. After creating their patterns, students erased the lettered outlines and colored their patterns with sharpie. Once they were finished, the patterns created the forms of their letters in unique and bold ways.

3rd and 4th Grade Symmetrical Name Aliens

Third and Fourth Grade started the year off with a lesson on symmetry and pattern. After writing their names on a folded piece of paper, the names were cut out and details added. Patterns were introduced and added to their name aliens.
