Paper Masks

This is one of my favorite fourth grade projects. We start off with a discussion about different times when people wear masks. I show them a book on all different types of masks and we look at many examples from different cultures. We brainstorm how we want our masks to look keeping in mind some requirements for our masks. After demonstrating different ways to manipulate paper, the student start creating their masks. Adding 3-D pieces of paper, yarn, beads and feathers each student creates an amazingly unique and creative mask.
